Curriculum vitae

Václav Polívka (24. 9. 1974) started his musical career at the age of ten as a member of the Dětský pěvecký sbor Československého rozhlasu (Children choir of the Czechoslovak radio broadcast) led by the conductor Čestmír Stašek, where Václav also played the violin and the percussions. It was here where he acquired basic experience with performing in public, recording for the radio, the television and film. During his violin studies at the Prague Conservatoire of Music, he became interested in Slovak folk music and was leader of the Limbora ensemble, playing the cymbal music. He also collaborated with the Laurych improvisation theatre. Between 1995 and 2000, Václav was member of the Karmína ensemble. He acquainted himself with Irish folk music when playing in the group Irish Dew. He took part in chamber music performance courses in Michaelstein as well as participating in violin performance courses of Ivan Štraus, Kato Havas, Bohumil Kotmel (sen.), Václav Hudeček and Jindřich Pazdera. His collaboration with Miloš Bok, a composer, conductor and pianist, the violinists Tomáš Vejvoda and Lukáš Kuta were for Václav of utmost value. Same may be said for his consultations in baroque music performance with Petr Šefl, Chiara Banchini, Lucy van Dael and Simon Standage as authentic performance is concerned and with Břetislav Novotný for the modern interpretation. Alongside many halls in the Czech republic, Václav has staged in Germany, Austria, Italy, Spain, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, the USA (California, Nevada, Utah), Namibia and the Republic of South Africa. In the mean time, he is taking private violin courses at prof. Bohumil Kotmel in Brno and singing at Terezie Blumová. He also plays the viola, the fiddle, the cornetto, the piano and the organ. He is member of the Chorea Bohemica and Jagabab ensembles, the latter specialising in gothic and renaissance music. He is teaching in Černošice music school as well as leading the Pramínek ensemble.
